Beautiful New York

A Celebration of the City

It Happened Today in New York City

On Paril 16, 2002, The New York Sun which had gone out of print over half a century earlier in 1950 reappeared on newsstands. The politically conservative broadsheet focused mainly on editorials, rather than reportage, and bore no relation other than title and motto (“it shines for all”) to the older paper which had become most famous for the legendary editorial Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus. After six years back in print, The Sun folded its pages again and became an online only publication.

When I was growing up my dad read the World Telegram and Sun, which I think was the result of three papers, including the Sun, merging. I don’t think any of these papers still exist.
