In spite of its LIC location, this grand clock tower (dubbed “the first skyscraper in Queens”) was originally dedicated to the Bank of Manhattan Company. The tower, designed by Queens-native Smith, was once the tallest building in the borough and was quickly made a New York City Landmark in 2015 following rumored reports of a modern office building taking its place.
