The shape of its façade was determined by the shape of the real estate on which it was built, thus perfectly blending the realities of Manhattan geography with Roth’s artistic architectural aspirations.

  1. 17 State Street is on the site of the birthplace of Herman Melville. The developers of the current building ignored the requirement to have an archaelogical study done on the site. The developers were subject to “punishment”. Their sentence was rather creative. They had to establish and fund a museum called New York Unearthed
