A Celebration of the City

Epiphany

01-06-epiphanyWhile we New Yorkers do not celebrate the Epiphany with the fanfare that our friends to the south have enjoyed, we do have two Churches of the Epiphany (one Catholic and one Episcopal) in the city. On this, the Twelfth Night after Christmas, the holiday season officially ends for observant Christians. This final feast day celebrates the gifts of the Magi, also earning it the title “Three Kings Day”.

  1. Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th was the day when St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church conducted The Blessing of the Waters ceremony with a procession from the church on Greenwich Street to the Battery.
Also on the Friday closest to Epiphany the Baker Street Aficionados gathered at the Algonquin to toast the birthday of their idol Sherlock Holmes.
