National Bird Day
At the end of a holiday season that focuses on a swans a’swimming, geese a’laying, calling birds, French hens, turtle doves, and a partridge, it is only appropriate that January 5 has been named National Bird Day. Here in New York, while pigeons abound, we are also host to some very majestic red-tailed hawks, a pair of universally loved gay penguins, and the many species of herons, geese, terns, etc. that inhabit the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Celebrate National Bird Day by birdwatching, bird studying, bird adoption, or any of the other many activities offered in the city and elsewhere. Enjoy!
