It Happened Today in New York City
On November 29, 2001, former Beatles legend George Harrison died at Staten Island University Hospital from lung cancer at the age of 58. Famous as the British rock band’s lead guitarist, Harrison’s compositional contributions included “Here Comes the Sun” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. He was the first of the Fab Four to have a successful solo album, Wonderwall Music. For many years, he had been a practicing Hindu, having long loved Indian culture and custom (including his taking up the sitar at an advanced age). In keeping with his religion, he was cremated in a simple ceremony.
