Guru Nanak Gurpurab
One of the most sacred Sikh holidays, Guru Nanak Gurpurab is the birthday of the religion’s founder. The majority of New York City’s Sikh community lives in Queens so, if you wish to celebrate, we recommend attending one of the Gurudwaras in the Flushing area. A traditional Gurpurab will already be well underway, having begun two days early with a marathon reading of the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib. Today, this will be followed with the singing of hymns while in procession from the place of worship through the local community. For more information, or localities other than Eastern Queens, you may wish to contact the Manhattan Sikh Association.
