World Poetry Day
UNESCO has declared March 21 World Poetry Day! To promote the reading, writing, publishing, and teaching of poetry throughout the world, there are many ways to participate. In New York, the world’s publishing capital, there remain open mic events throughout the city and poetry programs in many of the major universities. But we recommend a more grass roots approach to the art form. Poetry, after all, is supposed to be fun. So check out City Lore, a brilliant organization devoted to the preserving of cultural traditions throughout the city. City Lore’s program, the People’s Poetry Project, is best manifested in their glorious and quirky POEMobile, which projects verse onto the exterior walls of buildings and structures in the different communities and neighborhoods throughout the city.
