A Celebration of the City

Tu B’Shevat

TU BISHVATOn this day, observant Jews celebrate the “New Year for Trees” and some plant trees to mark the occasion. The more delicious means of celebration is the eating of fruit, particularly those fruits noted in the Bible as being the bounty of the Holy Land: grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates. Also traditional are bulgar wheat, honey, and barley. As the saying goes, all traditional Jewish holidays are about three things — “The tried to kill us. We survived. Let’s eat!”
