Beautiful New York

A Celebration of the City

New York Is… Nostalgia

01-23 NostalgiaThe saying goes that, whether you’ve lived here all your life or you just moved here last year, you first become a true New Yorker the first time you walk down the street, point to a building, and say to your companion “That used to be…” New Yorkers are always pining for the city of yore, the culture, the music, a favorite café or vista that is now gone. Whether pining for the old Penn Station, the beat culture of Greenwich Village, or the Third Avenue El, New Yorkers always have a reason it was better before. Even dangerous, drug infested Times Square of the 1970’s has its defenders in the face of squeaky clean Disney. But happily, there are many places in the city that haven’t changed in a century (or that deliberately style themselves to hearken back to that time) where you can indulge in your sense of nostalgia.
