12-25 Pal JoeyOn Christmas Day, 1940, Rodgers & Hart’s musical, Pal Joey, opened on Broadway and made a star of then-unknown song and dance man, Gene Kelly. Later adapted into a popular film with Frank Sinatra, the show featured such popular standards as “I Could Write a Book” and “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered” and would go on to run for 344 performances.

  1. It was Rodgers & Hart’s penultimate collaboration. Vivienne Segal delivered the witty lyrics of Bewitched with all of Lorenz Hart’s cynicism. In the revival of a Connecticut Yankee she also gave a spectacular rendition of on of Hart’s last lyrics, To Keep My Love Alive
