Beautiful New York

A Celebration of the City

New York Is… Museums

Queens Museum

As one of the major art capitals of the world, there can be no surprise that New York City is home to over 120 museums. But many of them are also devoted to history, science, archaeology, the professions, and many unique interests including the city itself. Whether your interest is immigrant life in the tenements, Tibetan art, medieval armor, or the culture of Spain, New York has a museum for you. And many of these great institutions are icons in themselves, featuring some of the city’s greatest architecture, in addition to the work on display within. Don’t forget, also, that many museum feature free and “pay what you wish” days, making them one of the greatest bargains in the cultural life of the city.
