New York Is… Education
In a complex city where so many people work in so many fields, and professional brilliance rules the roost, you’re going to need some training. Fortunately, New York features some of the greatest educational institutions in the world. NYC teenagers attend some of the most prestigious high schools in the country, whether public (such as Stuyvesant) or private (such as Dalton). But secondary education is only the precursor to advanced studies in every topic under the sun, from the arts to theology, science to business. And schools from Wagner to Fordham, St. John’s to Pratt, are the pride of each borough of the metropolis. Can it be any wonder that the phrase “New York intellectual” is often uttered as though it were one word?

Well done, Matthew. however New York City is also the home of what is now referred to as the City University – from its genesis as the Free Academy on East 23rd Street in 1847 until 1979, as it morphed into the component parts of the City University it was tuition free!
Among its noted alumni are General Colin Powell, Jonas Salk, Ira Gershwin, EY Yip Harburg, Alfred Kazin, Irving Howe, Judd Hirsch, Paddy Chayevsky, James Baldwin, Allie Sherman, Sylvia Fine Kaye, Danny Burstein, Jerry Seinfeld, General George Goethals and Bruce Paltrow among others. The flagship school of the university, CCNY fielded the only college basketball team to ever win the NIT and NCAA tournaments in one year (1951)
