It Happened Today in New York City
On November 22, 1965, Dale Wasserman, Joe Darion, and Mitch Leigh’s Man of La Mancha opened at the ANTA-Washington Square Theatre. The musical version of Don Quixote would go on to run for 2,329 performances and win five Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actor for its star, Richard Kiley. The show’s most famous song, “The Impossible Dream” remains a concert hit to this day.
