Top 20 Greatest NYC TV Shows — #17
Friends (1994 – 2004)
Okay, we admit it. Those kids could never have really afforded apartments that size in Greenwich Village, even in 1994. And yes, that kind of inaccuracy has kept other highly popular shows off this list. But so much New York City vibe seeps into almost every other aspect of this decade-long work of comic genius that we are willing to forgive. Three of the lead characters work in the restaurant business, one in dramatic entertainment, one in a high-rise corporate office building, and one at the Museum of Natural History. That alone speaks to New York culture. But tying it all together is that grand New York institution of the 1990’s, the coffee lounge. The fictitious Central Perk is surely the most sought after and emulated café in TV history.
