It Happened Today in New York City
On September 13, 1990, TV producer Dick Wolf premiered the series, Law & Order, on NBC. It would continue to run for a record 20 seasons (since surpassed by The Simpsons). Featuring the signature sound effect of a judge’s gavel, the series spawned highly successful franchise shows, such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Trial By Jury. Though the show is recognized as a starring vehicle for Jerry Orbach and Sam Waterston, neither appeared in the original season. They showed up in seasons 3 and 5 respectively. Their original counterparts were George Dzundza and Michael Moriarty.
