Labor Day

09-07 Labor DayNow celebrated throughout the nation, the first Labor Day Parade marched in New York City in 1882 from City Hall to Union Square (though this is not how Union Square got its name). In a city of skyscrapers and services, much is made each year of how the labor movement paved the way for the 40-hour work week, the weekend, holiday pay, maternity leave, and many other conditions seen as basic to today’s workforce.
