Black Swan (dir. Darren Aronofsky, 2010)

06-13 Black Swan

The ode to New York, “If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere!” is taken awfully seriously by some very obsessive people. And, in any good drama, obsession gives way to madness (especially when a dysfunctional family and a spoonful of self-doubt are added for good measure). This is the conceit for Aronofsky’s psychological thriller, Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman as a rising star in the New York City Ballet. It seems almost impossible to have made this movie without the arches and plaza of Lincoln Center, whose stages and rehearsal rooms become characters in themselves, as the young performer goes on her dark odyssey.
