Beautiful New York

A Celebration of the City

New York Is… Deco

Art Deco is the exquisite style of design that embraces symmetry, technology, precision, and streamlining. Nowhere in the world is there a larger concentration of glorious examples of Deco than in New York. The most legendary skyscrapers, like the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, the entrances of extraordinary hotels like the Waldorf Astoria or the Essex House, the interiors of the SS Normandie (found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) or the Fish Building (a residence in the Bronx) are lovely and soul-lifting examples of the style. If you don’t know where to start with your appreciation of Art Deco in this city, consider organizations dedicated to it, such as the Art Deco Society of New York. The golden age of the city and the golden age of the style went hand-in-hand, so great Deco is never too far away.
