Years before Stephen Sondheim became the Golden Boy of Broadway musicals, he wrote a little charmer called Saturday Night about lonely Brooklynites seeking dates in the city. Written in 1955, it wasn’t produced until 40 years later and this song, about falling in love in (and with) the city, remains its most exuberant legacy.
