Top 10 Greatest City-Specific Museums in NYC — #4
The Morgan Library
Though the collection at the Morgan includes art and literature from every period and culture, the greatest and most city-specific exhibit is the building itself. The former home of the ultimate Wall Street banker and financier, J. Pierpont Morgan, features the most dazzling interior and testament to what a Wall Street career can provide. Morgan’s study with its red velvet upholstered walls, his foyer with its glass and marble tile mosaics, his private library with its three Guttenberg Bibles (at least one of which is always on display) provide a glorious – and perhaps a bit shocking – contrast to the lives explored at the Poe Cottage or Ellis Island. But it also stands as a monument to the sheer potential of this international city for the realizing of the American Dream.
