The 9/11 Memorial Museum

BNY 2

Although the manner in which it is run (the admission price, the gift shop, the cross-jurisdictional bureaucratic bickering that long delayed its opening, etc.) has been more than a little controversial, the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s actual mission has been fulfilled in spades. Charged with the task of respectfully and poignantly commemorating those who were taken from us in the massacre of September 11, 2001, the designers and curators of this museum have outdone themselves in providing a place of reflection and remembrance. This subterranean monument lies beneath the memorial plaza where the twin towers once stood and features the remains of the old slurry wall and the survivor staircase among its exhibits. Comprehensive and tear-jerking.
