The crazy, beloved roly-poly bronze figures popularized by the sculptor, Tom Otterness, are a familiar fixture throughout New York City. But nowhere are they a more welcome presence than in his station-wide installation, Life Underground, in the subway station at the corner of 14^th Street and Eighth Avenue. The legendary alligator coming out of the sewer is one of the highlights, as is the telephone totem and the many moneybag figures and token carriers.
