Top 10 Greatest Bridges in NYC — #6
The longest suspension bridge in the world when it was completed (and currently the 11th longest), the Verrazano Bridge connects Brooklyn to Staten Island, spanning the narrows that also bear the name of the Italian explorer, Giovanni Di Verrazano. Often maligned by bikers and pedestrians as “the pathless bridge” because it has no walkway and is designed only for motor vehicles, the Verrazano does close to regular traffic during special major events. The most notable of these are the Five Boro Bike Tours and, of course, the New York City Marathon.
