Top 10 Greatest Bridges in NYC — #9
Williamsburg Bridge
When it opened in 1903, the Williamsburg Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world, connecting the Lower East Side to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, two of the world’s most densely populated neighborhoods. Looking to the Eiffel Tower for aesthetic inspiration, the bridge is home to pedestrians, automobiles, subway trains, and more bicyclists than any other span in the world. It has served as the opening setting for Caleb Carr’s novel, The Alienist, and the climax of Jules Dassin’s film noir, The Naked City.
