Reflecting Absence

02-23 Reflecting AbsenceKnown to many simply as “the pools”, Michael Arad’s twin waterfalls serve as a memorial to those who were killed on September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993.  Set in the footprints of the Twin Towers, the giant squares feature the names of the victims engraved around there edges as the water cascades down 30 feet beneath them from all sides.  The beautiful, peaceful, simple memorial is the closest thing to a cemetery or tombstone that many of the 9/11 families have to commemorate their loved and lost.
